The Story of Two Am CH’s

Am CH Topbrass Ad-Lib's Bangor CD *** OD

Bang was originally sold to good friends of mine (Jane and Chuck Libberton) who lived in Saint Charles, Illinois, which was  down the road from Elgin, Illinois, where I lived at the time. Jane and Chuck competed in Obedience, which was NOT Bang’s forte.

Bang loved to retrieve but could not usually count to 3.  She usually was an excellent water blind dog. At one of the last field trials I ran her in, the judges set up the water triple prior to the water blind. I was ecstatic when she did the water triple and was called back for the water blind. I’m not sure if it was my handling on the blind or Bang, but she did not do well on it.

Bang eventually managed to get Qualified All-Age, but was not capable of Amateur and Open Stakes. She also produced 2 Amateur Field Champions and 2 Bench Champions.

On the other hand, I originally kept a littermate to Bang (Am. CH. Topbrass San Francisco Flame OD) that I showed in conformation and received points from the open for 5 shows in a row. I mainly wanted to finish her bench championship, so I could got back to field trials. The 6th show I attended had a large entry, so was definitely a major.

I got there early and watched several other Sporting Dog Classes being judged - In each case the judge had given first place to 3 different well known professional handlers. There was one well known handler that he had not yet placed. I happened to know that handler and asked him if he would handle Flame for me.  I told him, she needed one more win to title. He took a look at Flame and said he would gladly handle her.  AND Now You know the Rest of the Story.  FLAME won Winners Bitch and finished her Title.
